A Letter from Carol Hulbert and the Rotation.org Board
December 2007

Dear Fellow Rotation.org Friends:

I want to share with you a Rotation story about a boy in first grade.  The scene is the art workshop at my church. The art medium: charcoal pencils.  We were doing a Rotation on Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane.  When asked about his drawing of the garden, he solemnly described it this way: “this guy (pointing to Peter) cut his ear off (pointing to the soldier) and Jesus said ‘No’ and healed it.  I would like to be like Jesus, except for the dead thing; I wouldn’t want to do that part.

Rotation Sunday school teaches kids how to “be like Jesus.”  www.Rotation.org is also trying to “be like Jesus” – inviting, always available to help,  and freely sharing. Rotation.org embodies Christ’s parable of the fishes and loaves in a new and far-reaching way.  This past month we put a “real-time” counter on the main page of the site.  It lists the cities people are logging in from around the world.  Switching to the daily “globe view” of the visitor counter, on our main page, you can see hundreds of yellow dots coming to our site from every continent, even islands in the middle of oceans!  Every day, contributions of content, great ideas and money given to Rotation.org multiply through the miracle of the Internet.

We like to say it's all “free.”  But of course, it's only free because every year dozens of churches and individuals step forward with a check.  It takes about $16,000 to run rotation.org per year.  That's a huge amount for us, but not so big when you think of all the money the site saves churches.

What have contributions covered in the past year?  In addition to the cost of hosting and maintaining the site and its ever-increasing content, donations have provided for the following:

  • Production of a Flash presentation describing the rotation model.
  • Payment for our part-time coordinator position – people who answer questions, produce the e-newsletter, shepherd the Writing Team (including professionally editing their lessons), and help folks like you.
  • Providing space for the volunteer writing team to collaboratively produce several new rotation lesson sets – available, like all our materials, for free!

Now here’s the challenge for 2008: We would like to increase our budget to $25,000.  Consider what rotation.org would like to achieve:

  • Create professional online training pieces to help train your Rotation teachers.
  • Create presentation material to help you in your recruiting efforts.
  • Increase by 50% the amount of time our Coordinators are available to help others.
  • Improve the quality of existing free materials including adding material for specific workshops such as music and science.
  • Produce Rotation materials for various age groups.

This is a hefty wish list that requires churches and individuals to step up.  It requires those who have given in the past to give again as they are able. And it requires new donations from those of you who have been waiting for just the right time to make a difference.  If every church that uses the site would give at least $100 (and some $500) and every individual would give at least $25 to $50, loaves and fishes would be multiplied!

Make your check out to “Rotation.org Inc.” and mail to:

Thank you so much for being willing to help continue this unique and far-reaching Christian education mission.
