Art Method - Felting

Felted Coasters, Balls, Walls & Roof for a House

I have to share this activity that we did at VBS this year. The kids made felt coasters and the preschoolers each made felt balls and they collectively made felt walls and a roof for a house that can be used in telling the bible story Mark 2:1-12 (Man Through the Roof).

Felting is a WONDERFUL activity to do with children. We used red and white merino wool roving purchased from Halycon yarns.

You need:

  • sushi mats
  • pie tins
  • and glycerine soap

It is a very repetitive process that produces amazing results and is excellent to convey those two passages. If you are interested in more info, email me.

Some lessons here at Rotation.org that have used felting in their Art Workshops:

  1. Art:  Children will create felted sheep pictures from sheep's wool in this "Psalm 23" lesson written by Jaymie Derden.
  2. Art: Children will create wet felted sheep finger puppets, for this "Lost Sheep" lesson written by Jaymie Derden, which they use in their drama workshop (link below).
Drama: Children will retell the story of the "Lost Sheep" lesson written by Jaymie Derden, using the felted sheep finger puppets previously made in their Art Workshop.
