More details about the new "Jesus Goes to the Cross"
lesson set from our Writing Team
If you like creative lesson plans with new techniques, then you are definitely going to like this set!
- The Cooking Workshop has a Seder Meal that remembers the story of the cross, rather than the traditional remembrance of Passover.
- The Video Workshop features the use of two free age-appropriate cross videos, plus a review of crucifixion scenes/stories found in a dozen popular Jesus films (animated and live actor) -- telling you which ones are appropriate for kids and which ones are too graphic.
- The Art Workshop features aluminum tin working! ("repousé"), and a creative approach that turns the reading of Mark's 47 cross-story verses into an activity.
- We created a special condensed printable version of Mark 15's forty-seven verses(!) about the trial and crucifixion of Jesus, ...and turned it into a deck of pictionary cards for the Bible Games lesson.
- We're not sure but we THINK we have invented a NEW WORKSHOP for the Rotation Model we are calling The Stations Workshop (it has a science demonstration and music video in it).
- Note to Planners: We think several of these lessons can easily be used in a Lenten Intergeneration Event.
One of the biggest challenges facing the writers was how to teach a long 47 verse story that is packed with characters, scenes, and details that might be disturbing to young children. To wit, we challenged each writer to come up with an active way to read the story, instead of just reading and talking, and we developed a condensed translation of the story that reduces its overall length by 40% without removing essential scenes and dialog.
This set is also trying another new thing: shorter class-time lesson plans. Typical lesson plans are geared for those with 50 minutes of class time. We challenged our writers to get it down to 35 to 40 so that those with less time could get it all in, and those with more time could take their time.
