Reply to "Gabriel's Announcement to Zechariah About the Birth of John (several lessons from Wendy Humphries)"

"Science & Art" Workshop about the Birth of John the Baptist

View and print the attached PDF of the lesson

Summary:

  • Scripture: Luke 1:1-20 (announcement) and Matthew 3:13-17  (John preaching repentance)
  • Focus:  Gabriel and John's messages.

Activities:
The lesson begins with a science experiment using red dye about the role of John and his message to "repent" and concludes with a color-dye art project.

Additional Suggestions: Instead of randomly applying color dyes to the paper, try to "draw" with dye drops a scene depicting the majesty and mission and awe of Gabriel. Add yourself with Gabriel as you think about how YOU are called to be a messenger for Christ ("angel" is the Greek word for messenger).    Incorporate some drops of bleach (carefully) in a very small area of your illustration of yourself to remember that part of John's message about repentance for the forgiveness of sins.  Dry with a blow dryer.
