Jesus Raises Lazarus

The full episode at https://watch.thechosen.tv/vid...83596184?language=en has a great run-up to the story, including showing Jesus receiving the news of Lazarus’ death and the disciples lack of understanding when Jesus declares himself to be “the resurrection and the life.”
The reactions to Lazarus’ resurrection are moving. Jesus tells him that he’s sorry he didn’t come earlier, that there was a higher purpose at work (aka sending a sign)
Earlier in season 4, we meet Lazarus, Mary and Martha in a wonderful couple of scenes.
Episode 7 keeps showing Thomas whom the series has earlier made a widower and upset that Jesus didn’t save his wife. It’s a clever bit of non-Gospel storytelling that addresses the obvious and age old question of why Jesus was selective in his miracles. He and Jesus talk afterwards and Thomas doesn’t understand, which sows his doubts.
The end of the episode shows Lazarus talking with his sisters about “what it was like.” (He remembers nothing.) Jesus speaks privately with him, while the sister talk about how Martha has changed. They discuss what they could “give to someone who can raise the dead.” Lazarus asks Jesus “why me” and Jesus answers that “it was time, the last public sign” and that the news will lead to his arrest. Jesus expresses frustration with his “students” and the religious leaders who twist his words. Jesus reveals to Lazarus that he must suffer.
At the end of the episode the disciples are arguing. Thomas is upset that Jesus didn’t save his fiancée (earlier in the season). They debate what’s going to happen next. We see Judas speaking out and being dismissed by some.
Mary Magdalene plays a prominent role in this episode. At the end of it we see her in the future movingly speaking about Jesus to an older Matthew about why Jesus wept that day and the bittersweet meaning of his death. That will be confusing to kids but it is poignant for those familiar with the story.
