This forum is collecting Sunday School classroom supply and resource suggestions, links, and discussions. It includes the "What's in Your Supply Closet" topic and a discussion about Bibles for kids. Lesson plans and ideas for specific Bible stories are organized by story in our Lesson Forums. You can also post your questions about lessons, supplies and resources in the Teachers Lounge.

Sunday School Supplies

If you had a basic supply list for Sunday School that could cover the needs for most classes and lessons, what would you put on it? In other words, what are the things that you could keep in every room so you wouldn't have to hunt for basic supplies every week?

Here's my list of "basic" Sunday School classroom supplies we stock in every room:

Great list Heather!

Here are a couple more "basics" in my Sunday School classroom:

  1. A collection of baskets, boxes, and containers for use with games and art supplies
  2. Table covers: A stack of newspaper or roll of butcher paper and a couple of thin plastic tablecloths for messy projects
  3. Posterboard and cardstock
  4. Swaths of cloth for quick costumes
  5. Extension cord
  6. Project clips to quickly hang/dry/display things
  7. Cleanup supplies for both the table and hands
  8. *A Way to Show Media*
If you're like me, no matter what age or medium you're teaching in, the ability to show media on a large screen is a "must-have." Invariably, I have a short video clip to show, an illustration, an image of a Bible place, a map, or photos/video of the kids taken with my cellphone. That means having both a smartTV and a cord (or Airplay that works) to connect my cellphone to it -- are very handy indeed.

Great lists! My additions to "must haves" for a well-equipped classroom:

  • mounting.puttytacky stuff to stick posters and artworks to the wall
  • paperclips and fishing line to hang things from the grid ceiling (lightweight things like stars with names on for the Abraham/number the stars lesson)
  • a whiteboard and dry erase markers
  • magnets - the whiteboard will take magnets and I copy story figures to tell the story and use the whiteboard (things don't fall off like they do with a flannelboard, and it is easier to color paper figures than to cut (or color) flannel story figures). I also use magnets to hang up memory verses and things like that.

Oh yes! I'm enjoying the lists above. I forgot jump ropes, pool noodles, and laundry baskets for games as well as mixing bowls from the dollar store for a variety of activities.
